BB Puzzle #13 – Professional Elves with Options

Written by:

The Simple Solution

The downed catcher can get to his feet and 2D blitz off the block lino with TZ on the ball. Both down, push or pow’s are all good, so it’s 97% success. Only a dub skull is rubbish, and that ends your attempt so no contingency required. If you get them down, the catcher would swing around to contact the linos near the ball as a bit of fail-state protection for the rest of the sequence.

Then you need to get the ball to the scoring piece. The two obvious answers are pick-up and handoff to L3 in 2TZ followed by dodge double rush (24222). Option 2 is to do the dodge double rush with L2 or 3 first and then pick up and pass to them in the EZ (2+ rush 3+ pass), but this adds a catch (2+) too, so is slightly worse.

Overall its about 23% to score, but most fail states leading to a decent chance for the humans.

But there is a better option…

All EU Linos have Fumblerooski,

So, you can pickup, run downfield a bit and place the ball on the ground. Then the scoring lino dodges out, picks-up and double rushes to the line. This converts the tricky 4+ handoff into a 2+.

Total rolls: (35/36), 2+ pickup (L1), 2+ dodge 2+ pickup 2+ rush 2+ rush (L2 or 3) = 39%. 16% better. Plus the turn ordering means a lot more of the humans are in contact when a failure happens, lower counter score chance.

Is there a better option? Comment below if you found something different.

What happened

Dave planned out the Fumblerooski play and was all set for Elf BS to score… but he rolled a dub skulls on the Blitz. I recovered the ball, handed if off but failed on a pass to one of my downfield scoring threats. Even though it didn’t work, it was nice to see a situation where Fumblerooski added value.
